Craving a wholesome and filling meal? These beautiful plant-based air fryer falafels may be just what you're after!

Packed full of delicious veg and super easy to make, this is one recipe you absolutely have to try.


Before you start

Food processor | Mixing bowl | Air Basket


For the falafel

  • 2x 400g cans chickpeas, drained
  • 1 red onion
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp rose harissa paste
  • 100g flour
  • Large handful of chopped coriander
  • Large handful of chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper

For the batter

  • 150g Plain flour
  • 300ml Almond milk

For the crust

  • 220g panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

To serve

  • 220g panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying


  1. 1.

    Make the paste | Put all the falafel ingredients into a food processor and whizz them up into a thick paste

  2. 2.

    Make the falafel balls | Peel and dice the onions | Take a spoonful of the mixture out of the food processor,roll it up into a ball in the palm and put on a plate | Repeat this process until all the falafel mixture has been used up

  3. 3.

    Make the batter | Put the batter ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix them up until you have a creamy, thick batter.

  4. 4.

    Coat the falafel balls | Dip a falafel ball in the batter, roll it around in the panko bread crumbs making sure you have a good coverage.

  5. 5.

    Cook the falafel | Set the air fryer to 180*C and add a thin layer of vegetable oil to the bottom of the basket | Cook for 12-15 minutes until crisp and golden.
