Cheeseburger Loaded Waffle Fries

These loaded cheeseburger waffle fries are the ultimate sharing dish. Packed full of crumbled up hamburger, zingy pickles, melted vegan cheese and topped with a burger sauce dressing, you'd be foolish not to give these a try as soon as possible!

Before you start

Preheat oven to 200*C | Ovenproof frying pan | Baking tray | Mixing bowl

  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 4 vegan burgers
  • 100g vegan cheddar
  • 1/2 small iceberg lettuce
  • 2 banana shallots
  • 2 medium sized gherkins
  • 1 550g bag waffle fries
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce

  • 50g vegan mayo
  • 2 tsp liquid from gherkin jar
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp American mustard
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

Method

    Cook the waffle fries | Spread the waffle fries out on the baking tray, put the tray in the oven and bake according to packet instructions (approx 20 mins)

    Prepare the ingredients | Cut the vegan burgers into thin strips l Grate the vegan cheese | Halve the iceberg lettuce, cut out the core and shred | Peel, trim and finely dice the shallots | Cut the gherkins into slices

    Make the sauce | Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl, stir to combine and transfer to a squeezy bottle (if using)

    Cook the burgers | Warm the oil in the frying pan over a medium heat | add the burger slices to the pan and fry for 4-5 minutes (don’t worry if the slices break up) | Take the pan off the heat and transfer the burger slices to a bowl

    Prepare the loaded fries | Take the fries out of the oven and set the tray down on a heat proof mat | Transfer a handful of the fries into the burger pan | Dot a few slices of burger on top of the fries | Sprinkle vegan cheese over the burgers | Sprinkle a few diced shallots and gherkins over the cheese | Repeat this process until you’ve used up all the ingredients (save a few gherkins and shallots for garnish) | Put the pan in the oven and roast for 5 minutes to warm through and melt the cheese

    Finish the loaded fries and serve | Remove the pan from the oven and set it down on a heat proof mat | Squeeze half the burger sauce over the fries | Sprinkle over the iceberg lettuce, reserved gherkins and shallots and dot the remaining sauce over the top | Hand out forks to your friends and tuck in!
