We love jackfruit. It’s such a versatile ingredient that can be incorporated into so many different dishes. We knocked up this Sweet & Sour and people loved it, give it a try!



Coating the jackfruit

  • 1/2 cup Cornflour
  • 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 2 tins Young Jackfruit, chopped.

For sauce

  • 1/8 Cup Sesame Oil
  • 1 Red Onion
  • 2 inches Ginger
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • 1 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1/3 cup Rice Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Pineapple


  1. 1.

    In a small bowl, mix the cornflour, Chinese five spice, onion and garlic powder and water. Mix together until it forms a thick-ish creamy consistency. Stir in the chopped jackfruit until it’s all well coated.

    Pour coated jackfruit into a pan and fry until it starts to crisp up slightly. Then put it in a bowl and leave to the side.

    In a large pan, add the oil, red onion, ginger, green pepper and cook until softened. Then add the pineapple juice, rice vinegar, ketchup and sugar, and stir well.

  4. 4.

    Add the prepared jackfruit and pineapple chunks. Stir and simmer until it makes a delicious sticky sauce.

    Serve immediately with rice and garnish with scallions. BOSH!
